Current Board of Directors:

President: Dr. Supriya Kulkarni, DMRD, DNB, FRCP(C), FSBI. Associate Professor, University of Toronto.

Dr. Kulkarni is the breast divisional head & associate professor, department of medical imaging at the University of Toronto. Her clinical engagement is at University Health Network, Mount Sinai Hospital, Women’s College Hospital, University of Toronto and Health Sciences North, Sudbury, Canada. Dr. Kulkarni is currently the Regional Breast Imaging Lead for the Health Sciences North & Northeast LHIN and Toronto Central Regional Cancer Program. Dr. Kulkarni’s special focus is on teaching, and providing mentorship and guidance to international trainees and new to practice radiologists nationally and internationally having received several teaching awards for contributing to cancer education.  

Past President CSBI | Director of Communications: Dr. Jean Seely, MD, FRCPC, FSBI, FCAR. Professor of Radiology, The University of Ottawa.

Dr. Jean Seely is a professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa. Dr Seely is the Head of the Breast Imaging Section of the Department of Medical Imaging at The Ottawa Hospital and the hospitals served in the Ottawa Region. Dr. Seely is the Regional Breast Imaging Lead for the Ontario Breast Screening Program of the Champlain LHIN, for Cancer Care Ontario, and practices clinical breast imaging and intervention. She has been awarded Fellow of the CAR and Fellow of the SBI.

Dr. Seely has published many articles, chapters and reviews on intervention in the chest and breast, breast MRI, patient experience and screening mammography.

Director of MRT: Christie Barbesin, MRT (R), DMS, CBI, RDMS (BR). Charge Technologist of Diagnostic Breast Imaging, Rose Ages Breast Health Centre, The Ottawa Hospital.

Christie Barbesin is a passionate and dedicated Breast Imaging Technologist with over 22 years experience.  She has worked in both screening and diagnostic settings, with the majority of her career spent in diagnostic Breast Imaging.  As a mammographer and breast sonographer, Christie is committed to providing high-quality images and to delivering exceptional patient care.  She enjoys sharing her breast imaging knowledge with fellow Technologists, imaging students, Residents, and clinical staff.  She is currently the Charge Technologist of Diagnostic Breast Imaging at the Rose Ages Breast Health Centre at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus.

Treasurer: Dr. Paula Gordon, OC, OBC, MD, FRCPC, FSBI. Clinical Professor of Radiology, The University of British Columbia.

Dr. Paula Gordon is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of British Columbia and has been practicing breast radiology for 40 years. In addition to her many academic awards, she was invested in the Order of British Columbia in 2013, and appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2022. Dr. Gordon is a founding member of the CSBI.

Director of Education Co Chair: Dr. Zina Kellow, MD, FRCPC. Assistant Professor of Radiology, Dalhousie University.

Dr. Zina Kellow is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  She worked for many years in Vancouver and Montreal prior to transitioning her practice more recently to the East Coast.  She is constantly striving to help evolve the field of breast imaging to better facilitate accurate and timely diagnosis.  She values meaningful patient interaction, the opportunity to teach, and collaboration with experts across the country.

Director of Education Co Chair: Dr. Raman Verma, MD, FRCPC. Assistant Professor of Radiology, The University of Ottawa.

Dr. Raman Verma is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Verma is actively involved in all aspects of breast imaging and intervention at the Women’s Breast Health Centre at The Ottawa Hospital. He has a strong interest in resident teaching, participating in providing CME courses, and the Annual Radiology Resident Review Course.

Director of Memberships: Dr. Silma Solorzano, MD, FRCPC. Assistant Professor of Radiology, McGill University, Breast Imaging Radiologist.

Dr. Silma Solórzano is an assistant professor at McGill University, working at the MUHC’s Cedars Breast Clinic. Dr. Solórzano prior position was working at the Saint Jerome Hospital (CISSS Des Laurentides), a community hospital, where she was the head of the breast imaging section for over 10 years. In this position, she was instrumental in establishing the regional Designated Reference Center for Investigation (CRID) at the St Jerome Hospital as part of the Québec Breast Cancer Screening Program (PQDCS).

Dr Solórzano is involved in breast cancer screening and diagnostic procedures. Teaching a new generation of radiologists is one of her passions and her current academic environment is ideal to inspire fellows as well as to collect material for her local and international lectures. 

Member at Large: Dr. Shushiela Appavoo, MD, FRCPC. Associate Clinical Professor, University of Alberta, Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging.

Dr Appavoo is an associate clinical Professor at the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at University of Alberta. She has held various leadership positions in breast imaging including breast imaging lead of the Alberta Society of Radiologists as well as Chair of the the breast imaging working group of the Canadian Association of Radiologists and the Guideline Chair for the 2013/2016 CAR Breast Imaging and Intervention guideline. She initiated and chairs the CSBI Patient Engagement Group and she has also initiated the Coalition for Responsible Healthcare Guidelines, advocating for better health screening guidelines for Canadians across multiple specialties.

Dr Appavoo has a focus on advocacy, responsibility and fairness in healthcare. 

Member at Large: Sue Peters, MCLSC, R. AUD. Healthcare Consultant & Patient Representative.

Sue Peters currently serves as the patient representative on the board of directors of the CSBI Executive Director. Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer through routine screening in 2016. Since that time, she has been an active patient partner including a 6-year term with Health Quality of Council of Alberta (HQCA) Patient and Family Advisory Committee. She currently sits as patient advisor to the Alberta Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Advisory Committee.

Professionally, Sue is a healthcare consultant specializing in practice facilitation and building quality improvement capacity in both primary and specialty care teams across Canada. She has a special interest in helping teams provide better screening to their patients.

Trainee Representative: Dr. Alice Wang

Dr. Alice Wang is a third-year diagnostic radiology resident at the University of Calgary. She currently serves as one of the trainee representatives on the board of directors for CSBI.

Dr. Alice Wang has a special interest in breast imaging, medical education and mentorship. She plans to pursue a fellowship in breast imaging.

Trainee Representative: Dr. June Wang

Dr. June Wang is a fourth-year diagnostic radiology resident at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital/Wayne State University School of Medicine. She currently serves as one of the resident representatives on the board of directors of the CSBI Executive Director. After residency, she will be doing her Breast Imaging Fellowship at the University of Ottawa. She is passionate about quality improvement and medical education.

Past Trainee Representative: Dr. Sri Sannihita Vatturi, MD

Dr. Vatturi is a third-year diagnostic radiology resident at the University of Ottawa. She currently serves as one of the resident representatives on the board of directors of the CSBI. She is the Univeristy of Ottawa resident representative for the Canadian Association of Radiologists Residents and Fellows Section. She has plans to pursue a fellowship in breast imaging.  

Past Trainee Representative: Dr. Kaitlin Zaki-Metias, MD

Dr. Zaki-Metias is a fifth-year diagnostic radiology resident and chief resident at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital/Wayne State University School of Medicine in Pontiac, Michigan. Originally from Winnipeg, MB, she currently resides in Windsor, ON. Following residency, Dr. Zaki-Metias will join the Breast and Abdominal Imaging fellowship program at Western University, after which she plans to return to Winnipeg for practice. This academic year, Dr. Zaki-Metias will be the inaugural International Resident Representative on the Canadian Association of Radiologists Resident & Fellow Section and will be serving her second term on the RSNA RadioGraphics Trainee Editorial Advisory Members Board. She is also an enthusiastic CAR volunteer, serving on the Referral Guidelines, Equity Diversity and Inclusion, and several accreditation program working groups. Dr. Zaki-Metias has special interests in breast and gynecologic imaging, health systems and quality improvement, undergraduate medical education, and mentorship.
